Liathe is, at her roots, a complex creature. She is a woman that has never viewed the world in black and white, but rather looked too deeply beneath the surface, peeling back the grit to find the various shades of grey.

She is open-minded and adventurous, delving fearlessly into the darkest rooms and the dimmest eyes, reveling in every soul as though they carry the purity of a newborn. Her patience is endlessly tempered, refined to a sloped edge that is nearly infuriating—that leaves you wondering why and how she could hear some things, could look upon some people, and never bat an eye of contempt.

Design by Hagon Appearance
A woman of many forms, Liathe is best defined by the jet silk of her coat, the sea-foam splash of her underbelly, and the prismatic expressions of violet opals that glimmer across her fine pelt in the right light.

A black-maned doe on some days, and a opalescent dragonness upon others, she uses her shifting magic to alter her appearance with half-forms and minuscule aspects stolen from her alternate appearances. She is, therefore, indefinite; she is impossible; she is defined most remarkably by the slender points of her long ears, the ocean blue gems of her hooves, her dazzling amethyst skin, and her violet eyes.

Her scars are her favorite jewelry, and she wears each of them as a badge, a fashion of triumph and memory interspersed between the flowers she winds through her hair.

Slender and small in stature, her body packs a deceptive punch, honed by years of training and rigorous maintenance. Her capacity in battle is further offset by the gentleness of her eyes, and the softness of her smile.
Personality
Liathe is, at her roots, a complex creature. She is a woman that has never viewed the world in black and white, but rather looked too deeply beneath the surface, peeling back the grit to find the various shades of grey.

She is open-minded and adventurous, delving fearlessly into the darkest rooms and the dimmest eyes, reveling in every soul as though they carry the purity of a newborn. Her patience is endlessly tempered, refined to a sloped edge that is nearly infuriating—that leaves you wondering why and how she could hear some things, could look upon some people, and never bat an eye of contempt.

A loyal, hard-working, matronly figure, she has been sharpened by time, experience, and loneliness. The shadows of her own life have left her questioning what dark corridors her peers were forced to walk, and if she can, she lends her torch-bearing hand to their cause until either they rip the limb off or assure her that they can stand alone.

Her family is of the utmost importance to her, and, to the Opal, an inextricable friendship is as much blood to her heart as her own kin could ever be.

A woman of change, a herald of looking hopefully to the horizon, she keeps her chin titled heavenward—to the night skies she was born from—waiting endlessly for the stars to ignite her bleakest, saddest days.
History
The Opaline is a changeling, half-blooded Fae native to worlds beyond Alanaris. Raised beneath the tutelage of her widowed father within the world of Athal, Liathe's existence was preceded by the oppression of her mother's people. And, as a half-blood, she was doomed to endure the same treatment. Raised primarily in secrecy between her father's mercantile trips and his efforts to sustain them both, she lived a blissfully unaware life, content within the quiet of her own company—

Until the day came that her father never returned.

Following his disappearance and presumed death, it was inevitable that she would be taken in by the authorities of Athal. Thereafter, Liathe spent roughly two decades in slavery. Beneath the thumb of three separate owners, her wariness of the world was sharped into a razor-point—until her freedom was ultimately bought by a man named Voxiox. Unbeknownst to her, the pillager captain would be a symbol of change; and a beacon of freedom.

In an effort to free her fellow slaves and to liberate her world from the politics and racism with which it was snared, she joined Voxiox's efforts as his Seeker, or scout, pirating and pillaging the slave-traders of Athal.

It was there that she remained, until the fated day came that one of Athal’s many portals drew her into a world beyond the carnage and the catastrophe, sucking her into a winding forest that would, inexplicably, come to be home.

It was there that she learned what it was to love; what it was to trust. What it was to question everything that she had believed in.

It was there that she would remain, the sliver of her that was selfish giving in to the temptation of the friends she made, the lover she found, and family she forged over the course of too-short years, until the day came that she nursed two newborns of her own at her breast.

All that would take them from their home—her, her husband, their sons—was the burgeoning necessity to grant their newborns a safe home; a home that would be wholly theirs.

And so, with her loved ones tuck close, they made for new horizons. They set off to change another world; to create one all their own.
